Writing to Stay Awake: Silence and Voice in the Creative Life
An East Bay Writing Workshop with Carolyn Foster
Seven Monday evenings: March 14, March 28, April 18, May 9, May 23, June 6, and June 27, 2005
If writing helps you make more conscious choices, stay connected to your
heart's wisdom, and express your authentic personal truths - in short, if
writing helps you wake up and stay awake - this workshop offers a way to
join others in intentional creative practice this spring.
We will open each meeting with a brief period of contemplative silence and
alternate freewriting warm-ups from topics and themes provided by the
facilitator with opportunities to read our work and to give and receive
constructive feedback. By anchoring each meeting with silence, we will
settle more deeply into our own voices, and by reading our work, we will
become a community of support for one another's artistic development. As
Rumi also writes, "Let yourself be silently drawn by the stronger pull of
what you really love."
