THE JOY INSIDE: MAKING ROOM FOR WHAT REALLY MATTERS
Women's Winter Contemplative Retreat with Carolyn Foster

January 11-13, 2008
Santa Sabina Center, San Rafael, California

Keep knocking, and the joy inside
      will eventually open a window
and look out to see who’s there.

      Jelaluddin Rumi

Any of us can wake up from the overstuffed lives we are leading and make room for what we long to have time for. It’s possible to take the blur that is modern life…and slow it down so we can actually be there in what we’re doing.

Sarah Susanka, The Not So Big Life

“Keep knocking,” the poet said. One of the ways I wake up the joy inside me is to leave routine and obligation behind and go on retreat. When I quiet down in a place of beauty, I am reminded of what I truly value. I clear my mind and remember how much I love my life and am grateful for its gifts. I return from retreat strengthened for the daily practice of choosing between being frantic and being present. I lead contemplative retreats because when women gather to write, reflect, be silent, and speak what matters, we take a stand for sanity, loving-kindness, and peace – and we go home changed.

Santa Sabina Center offers retreatants gracious hospitality, beauty, and a refuge for contemplation and renewal. Whether you want to be cozy inside or clear your mind in winter air, the house, courtyard, and gardens offer dozens of places for letting go into serenity. Scheduled program times alternate with free time for hiking, napping, playing in the art center, reading, or lying by a fire and drifting. The silences and conversations are as healing a diet as the good food.

Register by calling my voicemail, (510) 484-3078 on or after Monday, November 19. You may reserve for yourself and a friend with one call or have a friend call for you if you’ll be out of town. Last resort: e-mail me at cjf@creativechoices.net or fax me at (510) 769-8084. Sometimes people assume calling late won’t work, but whenever you get this or get around to deciding, call anyway. The cost of the retreat is $290 for a double room, $325 for a single room. This includes lodging, program, and six meals, from dinner Friday night through lunch Sunday.

Come and reconnect with your inward joy!
