SAYING YES TO MYSTERY: WRITING AS A SPIRITUAL PRACTICE
Women's Winter Contemplative Retreat with Carolyn Foster
January 12-14, 2007
Santa Sabina Center, San Rafael, California
This is the first,
wildest, and wisest thing I know
that the soul exists
and it is built
out of attentiveness.
Mary Oliver
A sense of Mystery can take us beyond disappointment and judgment to a place of expectancy.... Wisdom is possible at all times.... After all these years I have begun to wonder if the secret of living well is not in having all the answers but in pursuing unanswerable questions in good company.
Rachel Naomi Remen, My Grandfather's Blessings
Where do your strength and hope come from? How would you describe your sense of a deeper meaning in life? "Only what is experientially true is worthy of a mature spirituality," writes Jungian psychologist James Hollis, and so we will use the contemplative practices of writing, shared silence, and respectful listening to one another to describe our own resonant experience of what is holy, sacred, divine, or mysterious.
Santa Sabina Center offers retreatants gracious hospitality, beauty, and a refuge for contemplation and renewal. Whether you want to be cozy inside or clear your mind in winter air, the house, courtyard, and gardens offer dozens of places for letting go into serenity. Scheduled program times alternate with free time for hiking, napping, playing in the art center, reading, or lying by a fire and drifting. The silences and conversations are as healing a diet as the good food.
Register by calling my voicemail, (510) 484-3078 on or after Monday, November 13. You may reserve for yourself and a friend with one call or have a friend call for you if you'll be out of town. Last resort: e-mail me at cjf@creativechoices.net or fax me at (510) 769-8084. Sometimes people assume calling late won't work, but whenever you get this or get around to deciding, call anyway. The cost of the retreat is $290 for a double room, $325 for a single room. This includes lodging, program, and six meals, from dinner Friday night through lunch Sunday.
Come and play with Mystery in good company!
