INVITING SILENCE AND BEAUTY INTO OUR LIVES
Women's Fall Contemplative Retreat with Carolyn Foster
September 21-23, 2006
Santa Sabina Center, San Rafael
Peace, be still.
Peace, be still.
The storm rages.
Peace, be still.
Taize chant
Yet though the music of the heart may grow faint, there is in each of us an unprotected place that beauty can always reach out and touch. It was Blaise Pascal who said: In difficult times you should always carry something beautiful in your mind.
John O’Donohue, Beauty
For twelve years of seasons now, I have been offering women’s contemplative retreats here at Santa Sabina Center. I’m always struck by how starved for peace, reflection, and appreciation of beauty we women seem to be. Vacationing in New York recently, I stayed in a small hotel with a back garden, and it was actually nice enough to eat breakfast outside. As I sat in the sun, the roar of Manhattan faded, and I took in the roses and the robins. My whole being rejoiced in beauty and quiet. Out of that experience and wonderful things I’ve been reading lately, I’ll provide resources for us to let down, deepen into stillness, write and share, and be refreshed.
Santa Sabina Center offers retreatants gracious hospitality, beauty, and a refuge for contemplation and renewal. Whether you want to be cozy inside or seek sun or shade outside, the house, courtyard, and gardens offer dozens of places for letting go into serenity. Scheduled program times alternate with free time for hiking, napping, playing in the art center, reading, or just watching the trees and the sky. The silences and conversations are as healing a diet as the good food.
Register by calling my voicemail, (510) 484-3078 on or after Monday, June 18. You may reserve for yourself and a friend with one call or have a friend call for you if you’ll be out of town. Last resort: e-mail me at cjf@creativechoices.net or fax me at (510) 769-8084. Sometimes people assume calling late won’t work, but whenever you get this or get around to deciding, call anyway. The cost of the retreat is $290 for a double room, $325 for a single room. This includes lodging, program, and six meals, from dinner Friday night through lunch Sunday.
Come and find courage and hope through beauty and silence!
