SERENITY AND SILENCE: WRITING AS A PATH TO PEACE
Women's Fall Contemplative Retreat with Carolyn Foster
SEPTEMBER 16-18, 2005
Santa Sabina Center, San Rafael
What we need, and what we love, what consoles us and what redeems us is here each moment, already within us. It waits for us to recognize its presence.
We have only to give ourselves up to it, and our one life, and all life,
welcomes us into its arms.
John Tarrant, The Light Inside the Dark
When we are caught up in the momentum of our routines, liking this and disliking that, we seldom experience equanimity that sense that all is well, no matter what the circumstances. When we do experience it, we feel deep peace. I gain greater access to equanimity when I retreat into companionable silence with like-minded others and use writing to clear my thoughts, ease my heart, and clarify my intentions. This weekend retreat will offer a chance to explore the spiritual practices of shared silence and reflective writing, using the themes of equanimity and deep peace.
Santa Sabina Center offers retreatants gracious hospitality, beauty, and a refuge for contemplation and renewal. In the warmth and ripeness of a California September, the house, courtyard, and gardens offer dozens of places for letting go into serenity. Scheduled program times alternate with free time for hiking, napping, playing in the art center, reading, or lying and watching the trees and sky. The silences and conversations are as healing a diet as the good food.
Register by calling my voicemail, (510) 484-3078 on or after Monday, June 27. You may reserve for yourself and a friend with one call or have a friend call for you if you'll be out of town. Last resort: e-mail me at cjf@creativechoices.net or fax me at (510) 769-8084. Sometimes people assume calling late won't work, but whenever you get this or get around to deciding, call anyway. The cost of the retreat is $260 for a double room, $300 for a single room. This includes lodging, program, and six meals, from dinner Friday night through lunch Sunday.
Come and be welcomed by peace!
